International Board Experience

John has sat as an Executive Director on a range of financial institution and fund company boards including private banks, asset managers, UCITS, SICAVs, KAGs and AIFMs in a number of jurisdictions. He has managed multi-national investment operations across Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom and mainland Europe. As an executive with responsibility for global investment management and marketing teams with a focus on portfolio returns and growth in funds under management, John has wide experience of investment, fiduciary and governance structures.

Investment Management Expertise

Having spent many years heading teams managing multi-billion dollar portfolios across all mainstream and alternative investment classes (bond funds, equity funds, funds of hedge funds, currencies, commodities and derivatives), John has a keen insight into the complexities of international investment markets. He has many years experience of selecting and liaising with service providers such as investment managers, administrators and custodians.

Business Development Background

As an executive John has grown businesses in terms of both assets and client numbers through product development and marketing campaigns. These ranged from one-to-one meetings to large scale public speaking engagements. Mergers & Acquisitions experience includes the co-ordination of full due diligence processes into buying/selling fund companies, banks, asset managers and trust companies. John has worked with clients in Ireland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

Regulatory Approvals in Ireland and Overseas

John has wide experience of dealing with financial regulators in a variety of international jurisdictions covering areas such as fund approvals, mergers & acquisitions and regulatory reporting. He has held regulatory approval in Ireland (CBI), the United Kingdom (FCA), Austria (FMA) and Switzerland (FINMA). Currently approved by the Central Bank of Ireland under its “Fitness & Probity’ regime as an Independent Fund Chairman and Independent Non-Executive Director for UCITS, AIFs and ManCos.


Member of the Institute of Directors (M.IoD), (IoD Dip) 2012

Studied at the IMI (Irish Management Institute). Awarded IoD Diploma in Corporate Directorship (IoD Dip) an internationally recognised qualification in corporate governance. Worked with the Institute of Directors in Ireland on the design and delivery of fund governance workshops to new and aspiring fund directors.

Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment (FCSI)

Global qualification within the international investment and funds industry awarded by the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) London. Studied at the City University Business School London for CISI Membership Examinations in 1990-1992. Ongoing CPD with emphasis on funds industry. Elected Fellow of the Institute in 2001.
